Pitching Thoughts 7/25

It’s a wide open night pitching-wise.  Dig in and get an advantage over the people blindly clicking Chad Morton.  As always, rankings out of 100 based on price and potential output.

Felix Hernandez v BOS: (95) King Felix is rounding back into his old form since coming off the DL.  Checkout his signature change up @PitchingNinja’s page.  Nasty as ever.  The Sox have an atrocious 73 wRC+ vs RHP the last 30 days.

Madison Bumgarner v PIT: (95) Since his return MadBum has been hittable.  He’s issued an uncharacteristic number of walks, as well.  He’s under 10K on DraftKings for the first time in a very long time.  I’ll take the opportunity to get a horse like him against a below average offense (.304 wOBA vs RHP last 30 days) at that price any time.

Jacob Faria v BAL: (90) The other shoe finally fell for Faria last start.  That bumped down his price a bit, which helps.  The Oriole’s have some firepower despite their struggles this season.  Those things may keep his ownership in check.

Michael Fulmer v KC: (90) Fulmer has been a model of consistancy all season, so it was surprising the Royals did so much early damage against him in his last start.  KC has improved, but I still have major doubts about their offense.  Give me Big Mike at home.

Jon Gray @ STL: (90) It’s a gamble betting on Gray but there’s only a few guys with double digit strikeout potential tonight.  The risk is a double digit negative, so this is a Ricky Bobby move.

Charlie Morton @ PHI: (85) I’m not really interested in Morton tonight.  He’s going to be chalky, doesn’t really go deep into games, and is far from bulletproof.  The Phillies strikeout a bunch, though so he has floor.

Kenta Maeda v MIN: (85) Maeda is good for 5 innings, 5ish Ks, and limited earned runs like most of the Dodgers staff.  That’s fine for cash lineups.

Sonny Gray @ TOR: (80) Most of Gray’s recent success has come at home in the spacious Colosseum.  The Roger’s Center is a much different place.  Not one that is kind to a pitcher with a .470 road SLG%.  I’ve got a bad feeling about Sonny in this spot.

Jordan Montgomery v CIN: (80) The Reds aren’t great on the road.  Monty has scuffled lately, but this is a get healthy start.  The main draw here is the sub $6K price.

Luis Castillo @ NYY: (80) It’s a dart throw against the Yankees, so proceed with caution, but he’s flashed talent all year with a 13.3 SwStr%.  The Yankees have cooled off as well.
